The Beach

beach sunset

by
Geoffrey Zimmerman

I stand and gaze
Across the crashing waves
Awaiting the image
Of an approaching ship
My bare toes atop a stone
The only of its kind among the sand
I walk the shore
The stone in my pocket
A find among others
Unique from all

I looked afar
And beneath my skin
Had been the treasure
Of your love
